I have been working with the Rosie Initiative for over a year now and I am currently working with my second protégée. The Rosie Initiative has been exceptional in supporting women who are seeking career guidance and pairing them with senior professionals in the same field. The organization does a great job setting the mentor & protégée on the right path, providing supporting materials, and onboarding session and check-in sessions throughout. I believe that the greatest reward of being a leader is having the opportunity to help others learn, grow and take on new opportunities that will benefit their career.

The Rosie 1:1 Mentoring Program is extremely well organized, maximizing the benefit of the mentorship provided to young and promising individuals. I have been very impressed by how much mentors learn from their protégées as much as they learn from their mentors. I have definitely learned a lot from the outstanding individuals I have had the chance to interact with, and their unique perspective will help me grow as a Scientist. I hope I have been able to help them in developing their skills and advance in their career. A true win-win initiative.

This 1:1 Program has made a big impact on many people. My protégée had the same cultural background as me, so we connected pretty quickly. Her challenges at work were not small but she had a strong motivation to succeed. I gave her some of my lessons learned working in engineering and project management and she absorbed so much in very little time. I am honoured to be watching her success.

I met my protégée amidst the pandemic when she was planning to get back to work after a long maternal leave and change her field to Data Analytics. I enjoyed every one of our sessions, from the ones with a friendly chat on how to multi-task as a working mom and cope with the new Covid-emerged norm to the ones where we planned her training and interviews. Her achievements along the way enlightened my day. Nothing was more delightful than to know sharing some of my experiences could facilitate my protégées’ career development. The Rosie 1:1 Mentoring Program organizers provided useful resources along the way, which helped me better develop a motivating and constructive support system for future mentorship opportunities.

As a result of thoughtful matching, I have been able to develop a strong relationship with my protégée that I hope will last for many years.

The match that the Rosie 1:1 Mentoring Program made between me and my protégée was excellent. We had a lot of knowledge and perspectives to share with each other. I am so happy to be able to give back to women in early career, and help equip them with tools and confidence to better navigate hurdles and focus on advancing to achieve their potential as quickly as possible. I learned a lot from my protégée and really enjoyed our discussions. She was so receptive and thankful for my input, it was such a joy to work with her.

This is a very well-organized program that I believe will have a very positive impact in helping women in senior positions. Anytime we can help executive women overcome the ‘imposter syndrome’ we will be able to advance their careers into roles still disproportionately held by men.

I was pleased to be invited to be a mentor as I hoped I would be able to offer someone a few insights and “attaboys » that I found hard to come by as a young woman working in a science-based industry. The Rosie 1:1 Mentoring Program offered the opportunity to do that and quite a bit more. I really enjoyed getting to know my protégée, not just to discuss goals and her personal development strategy, but also to understand her immediate workplace challenges and what actionable changes we could make in the short term to enhance her career development. It was super interesting to me to compare the issues facing a motivated, career-driven young woman today versus those I dealt with a number of decades ago.
