Capital Power is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Goreway Power Station team in the role of Maintenance Superintendent/ Project Specialist.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the role of the Maintenance Superintendent/ Project Specialist is to organize, direct, control and evaluate the power plant outages/projects, and long and short-term maintenance on production equipment and station facilities at Capital Power sites, with a focus on Goreway Power Station. Additionally, this position will also plan and coordinate services for the maintenance and commissioning activity related to the battery storage project and other sites as required.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Updating the maintenance component of the O&M Plan based on sound asset management planning.
  • Supporting Plant Management in ensuring the equipment reliability and capacity is achieved to meet the plant commitments.
  • Overseeing the storage cell life cycle management of the Battery Storage Systems (2-year life cycle).
  • Supporting the development of long-range maintenance plans for major equipment based on sound engineering practices and OEM recommendations for the plant life cycle.
  • Supporting the Maintenance Manager in the completion of all facility reporting requirements including environmental, safety, budgeting, and plant performance.
  • Providing input and support in the development of the annual budget and annual operating plans.
  • Translating company/plant goals into tactical plans.
  • Supporting coordination of group activities with plant Engineer, as needed, to maintain compliance regarding work-related issues.
  • Assuring safe, timely and efficient resolution of problems to return systems and equipment to ready-to-run condition and meeting system operability needs.
  • Ensuring work group activities are performed on time and within budget through effective planning, organizing, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities and utilization of resources.
  • Managing coordination with BESS OEM for all maintenance activities at assigned facilities.
  • Ensuring the appropriate shared services agreement cost allocations are accounted for in regard to the BESS.
  • Directing personnel in outage planning and scheduling of maintenance to assure thorough investigation of each request, determining material needs and other prerequisites such as equipment/tools needed, workforce needs, and procedures required.
  • Evaluating contract work for best value for the company.
  • Ensuring that staff understand the inventory system and that all goods used and received are recorded in the system and allocated between Goreway and Goreway BESS.
  • Developing the identification of primary maintenance and equipment risks using sound engineering and reliability principles and takes ownership and leadership in developing long term inspection and mitigation strategies.
  • Ensuring planned and emergent work continuity while technicians are on their scheduled days off.
  • Coordinating and planning activities associated with the BESS LTSA, including major maintenance planning on covered equipment along with the OEM.
  • Performing Root Cause Analysis and reporting.

What you will bring to the role:

Education:

  • Completed degree preferred or technical diploma related to safe and efficient maintenance of a power plant.
  • Other equivalencies including a Journeyman Trade Certification or Professional Engineer may be considered with significant plant O&M experience.

Experience:

  • Six years or more of related experience in maintenance at a power generation site, preferably at gas turbine power plant.
  • Experience leading projects and employees.

Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of all facets of power plant O&M.
  • Strong background and understanding of any of the following will be preferred: HRSG’s, valves, steam plant, cooling, High Voltage, PLC controls, complex industrial electrical systems, pressure codes,  Instrumentation, large industrial turbines and rotating generation equipment.
  • Proven ability to make competent decisions in emergent situations.
  • Proven ability to use and manage work within a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), Maximo ® experience preferred.
  • Capable of writing operating procedures, work requests, reports, and purchase requisitions.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and Piping & Instrument Drawings.
  • Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Project, MS Excel and MS word

Working Conditions:

  • Plant site based, with possible minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
  • Ability to supervise in a union environment, resolve disputes and understand the union contract.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and stairs.

Additional Details:

As this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug & alcohol test is required.

Clearance of a pre-employment medical will also be required.
