Your Opportunity

One Permanent Full Time Position.

We are currently seeking an innovative and motivated individual to join our Regulatory Compliance team!

As a key member at Capital Power, you’ll play a vital role in overseeing regulatory compliance across our North American operations, including managing our ethics program. Reporting directly to the SVP, External Relations, and Chief Legal Officer, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that our company adheres to all regulatory requirements and ethical standards.

You will contribute to our team by

  • Recommending, executing, and reviewing a 2-to-5-year business plan to achieve the regulatory compliance and desired ethics outcomes.
  • Proactive compliance planning, with education, communication, and execution of methodologies that ensures the legal and corporate compliance necessary to obtain and preserve operating licenses.
  • Leading the internal and cross functional integration of strategy and planning for a team that delivers compliance planning, research, policy drafting and analysis, risk management/mitigation, ethics, and governance support.
  • Leading governance related work in the areas of policy development, corporate process, and compliance investigations.
  • Providing input to the executive and leadership team’s plans ensuring an appropriate understanding of Compliance and Ethics strategy.
  • Reviewing, approving, integrating, measuring, and evaluating multi-year project plans for the team to achieve business targets.
  • Cultivating relationships with regulators, partners, suppliers, and other stakeholders to support our objectives. Representing the company at public events and engagements. Designing the Compliance and Ethics organization, and adapting it to emerging business needs, technologies, and stakeholder environments.
  • Developing corporate processes and investigating ethics complaints to implement effective solutions.
  • Making recommendations to the executive team for solutions to material compliance issues.
  • Identifying the potential compliance, ethics, and business consequences of corporate decisions, and recommending actions to the SVP.
  • Building, organizing, and training the Compliance and Ethics team to handle changing regulatory challenges effectively.

What you will bring to the role  

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in law, business administration or related field.
  • Completed master’s degree.
  • Educational equivalency may be considered.

Experience:

  • 10 to 15 years of work of related work experience.
  • Experience in a leadership role.

Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of policy formation and analysis.
  • Ability to effectively build relationships.
  • Ability to coach and mentor direct reports, and appropriately delegate responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates proactivity, strategic thinking, teamwork, strong work ethic and good judgment.
  • Ability to explain concepts to a variety of audiences, including board or external parties.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position.
  • Travel is required, as this role provides services to all our business lines, offices, plants, and projects.
  • Work hours may vary.
  • Working location: Calgary or Edmonton, AB
