We are seeking a motivated and innovative professional to join our Insurance & Enterprise Risk Management team!

As the Manager, Insurance & Enterprise Risk Management you are accountable for assisting with the placement and renewal of Capital Power’s corporate insurance programs, including development of insurance risk transfer programs to provide adequate coverage for identified and insurable risks. You will also be involved with loss control visits, claims management, and due diligence efforts related to insurance requirements. In addition, the position is accountable for assisting with the implementation and ongoing maintenance of an effective and efficient ERM program.

You will contribute to our team by

  • Supporting corporate insurance programs and the placement of appropriate risk-based coverage lines (property, liability, Directors & Officers, Crime, workers compensation, Fiduciary and Auto).
  • Managing insurance Broker services (performance and cost of service).
  • Handling the insurance claims process.
  • Facilitating and participating in the loss control inspection process required by insurers.
  • Providing Insurance Risk expertise to business development operations, and construction.
  • Maintaining current knowledge on emerging risks and impact to operations, technologies, key developments, and approaches in the ERM area.
  • Helping identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor the Company’s operational and strategic risk.
  • Analyzing and reporting enterprise risks, and to managing risks according to an enterprise risk management framework.
  • Recommending risk management approaches to business.
  • Providing recommendations and contact information to assist operations in resolving insurer recommendations from loss control inspections.
  • Managing resources within approved budget.
  • Providing input and advice on all greenfield, construction, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate execution of all insurance policies.
  • Ensuring the organization’s risk management policies and strategies comply with applicable standards and are aligned with the organization.
  • Assisting to ensure adequate insurance coverage through quantitative analysis and risk assessment is in force for all identified risk.
  • Communicating anticipated changes to the existing insurance programs in a timely manner.
  • Educating stakeholders about the most significant business risks, ensure business leaders understand the risks that may affect their operations.
  • Working collaboratively and across groups within and outside of the organization to ensure risk exposure is mitigated.
  • Assisting with the preparation of reports annually to the audit committee on the insurance program.
  • Providing mentorship and training to any assigned staff.

What you will bring to the role  

Education:

  • University degree required, preferably B. Com, Engineering, or related field.
  • Canadian Risk Management Designation would be an asset.
  • Educational equivalency may be considered.

Experience:

  • 5-9 years of related experience.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong ability to communicate and work effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Well versed in the power industry / business and the associated risks.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position
  • Travel to Capital Power generating facilities on a regular basis.
