We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join our dynamic IS Shared Services team!

Our IS Shared Services department is comprised of the Project Management Office and the Service Desk.

The Project Management Office is accountable for the successful delivery of key capital projects as defined within the annual IS Plan.

Reporting to the Director, IS Shared Services, as the IT Business Analyst, you will bridge the gap between business and technology. You will analyze the needs, problems, and opportunities of the business stakeholders and translate them into IT requirements. You will also communicate and collaborate with the IS team to ensure that the solutions meet the expectations and goals of the business.  This can require access to and the creation of confidential information.

You will contribute to our team by

  • Participating in highly complex and moderately complex projects which may have past precedents.
  • Leading the effort to elicit, document, and validate business requirements for projects using various techniques such as interviews, workshops, surveys, and observation.
  • Translating business requirements into technical requirements.
  • Creating and maintaining artifacts, such as business process models, information flow diagrams, use cases, user stories, feasibility studies and other analytical deliverables.
  • Performing and documenting gap analysis between current and future states.
  • Maintaining a senior level of knowledge within the area of IT Business Analysis.
  • Contributing to the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) body of knowledge as required.
  • Analyzing and prioritizing requirements based on business value, feasibility, and risk.
  • Obtaining business sign-off at project stages as required.
  • Providing business process expertise to stakeholders and peers in support of business and strategic goals.
  • Provide input into technical / technology decisions.
  • Creating and documenting detailed test case scenarios.
  • Conducting testing and quality assurance activities to verify that the solution meets the requirements and standards.
  • Coordinating and participating in System Testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and technical/product training sessions
  • Providing support and guidance to the business users during the solution implementation and aftercare period.
  • Predicting and identifying problems and recommending solutions.
  • Working closely with development teams, business partners, and Project Manager to document and resolve software defects.
  • Reporting on sources of issues or common questions and providing recommendations to the Project Manager.
  • Working closely with and taking direction from Project Manager(s).
  • Engaging with key project stakeholders in both the business and IS areas.
  • Working with the business team to develop user acceptance test plans and scripts to verify alignment of functionality with specifications.
  • Working with business and technical teams to develop various project strategy documents.
  • Assisting Change Manager to determine user training needs.

What you will bring to the role 

Education:

  • Degree/Diploma in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Business Analyst certification is an asset.
  • Education equivalency may be considered.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Information Technology.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in an IT Business Analyst role.
  • Experience as a Business Analyst and/or Lead Tester with Workday HCM, Recruiting, Time Tracking, Absence, Compensation & CDN Payroll is desirable.

Technical Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills coupled with strong skills in verbal and written communication including technical writing skills.
  • Ability to obtain and document processes and requirements for software development and application implementations.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in writing and verbally at a business/non-technical level.
  • Ability to translate technical terms to business language and communicate complex technical concepts in ways that are easy to understand.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively perform quality assurance.
  • Experience in the system development life cycle from initiation through delivery and support in an agile or agile/waterfall hybrid environment.
  • Familiarity with JIRA is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Workday LMS is an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position based in Edmonton.
  • Minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
  • Out of business hours and overtime may occasionally be required.
