Your Opportunity

One Permanent Full Time Position.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated, commercially minded individual to join our Commodities Canada West team’s Origination (“Origination”) efforts!

The Origination team is responsible for supporting Commodities Trading through enhancing commodity market (electricity, natural gas and environmental products) liquidity and value creation by executing commercially valuable commodity transactions.

Reporting to the Director, Commodities Canada West, as the Senior Analyst, Commodities Canada West, you are accountable for providing quantitative and commercial support to grow and build insight into Commodities Canada West’s Origination portfolio while also supporting other Commodities Canada West analytical projects. This role will require a high amount of collaboration with key external and internal stakeholders, including customers, agencies, internal peer/cross-functional support groups, and Executive.

You will contribute to our team by

  • Conducting the varied analytical, modeling, reporting and compliance requirements of the Origination team, including customer energy consumption and tariff analysis, budget preparation, product development and pricing, corporate business and market reporting.
  • Developing pricing models and tools for standard physical and financial, conventional, renewable, retail and wholesale energy products.
  • Pricing and structuring more sophisticated customized and tailored products and services.
  • Working alongside other portfolio, commercial and operational functions to help optimize portfolio value.
  • Managing and executing all commercial aspects associated with administration, reporting, management and training for Capital Power’s Customer Relationship Management system as needed.
  • Supporting the development of Capital Power’s responses to commercial opportunities by developing, maintaining and disseminating market intelligence associated with customer needs and prospective solutions.
  • Ensuring timely, accurate deal entry in accordance with policy and guidelines.

What you will bring to the role    

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree specializing in Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Engineering or related field.

Experience:

  • 2 – 5 years’ experience in a similar role.

Technical Skills:

  • Commercially focused business acumen, with strong analytical skills and the ability to simply communicate complex issues / challenges and associated solutions, both internally and externally.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the roles, responsibilities and processes (front, middle, back-office) related to delivering energy-related solutions to customers and stakeholders.
  • Advanced application skills related to MS Office Suite (Dynamics CRM, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, PowerBI).
  • Advanced analytical and coding skills that can include coding / using VBA, SQL, R, Python languages.
  • An understanding of matters potentially impacting Capital Power’s customers / stakeholders, including energy market dynamics in Alberta and interconnected markets and utility tariffs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, solid negotiation skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure situations.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position.
  • Job and candidate must be based out of Calgary.
  • May require intra-Alberta or occasional Canadian / US travel.
