Capital Power is currently seeking an innovative results-oriented individual to join our Controller group!

The Controller group is responsible for accounting for, and reporting on, the results of the Company’s operations, and includes Financial Accounting, Commercial Reporting, Financial Reporting, Business Analysis, and Financial Services.

As the Accounts Payable Specialist, you are accountable for the vendor payment process.  This includes the initial vendor setup, processing vendor payments, being accountable for the processing of non-resident withholding tax (NRWT) and assisting with special projects pertaining to the Accounts Payable area. You will also respond to payment enquiries from internal contacts.

You will contribute to our team by

  • Preparing payment runs, processing of non-resident withholding tax and vendor setups.
  • Working with and preparing payments for processing in external banks
  • Participating in accounting/finance projects.
  • Maintaining knowledge of the process for payment runs, etc., and assisting others in payment information requests.
  • Training CPC Admin staff on AP process and company policy. This includes being the touchpoint/lead for AP related questions, vendor set ups, and payment entry queries.
  • Monitoring day-to-day performance of AP systems and processes that support Finance and the Accounting.
  • Applying technical knowledge to achieve timely delivery of AP payments in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, contracts, and agreements.
  • Working with others to resolve straight forward issues within Accounts Payable with guidance from IT team or manager, accounts payable, escalating issues as required.
  • Providing input to direct manager regarding new and improved approaches within the Accounts Payable Team.
  • Incorporating new objectives and goals for Financial Services and Capital Power into positions day-to-day work.
  • Researching new jurisdictions on understanding the tax setup for sales and use tax in the US.
  • Maintaining significant checks and balances on work to reduce the risk of financial error.
  • Adhering to established controls and prepares documentation evidence of the Canadian Sarbanes-Oxley (CSOX) compliance.
  • Having direct access to various regions sales tax systems in the US to pay direct online banking payments for sale and use tax.
  • Adhering and participates in Health, Safety & Environment procedures/rules and standards set out by Capital Power.
  • Maintaining working rapport with peers, business partners within all areas of Capital Power, and external auditors relating to Accounts Payable items.
  • Demonstrating professional work by being a business partner for various General &
  • Administration areas and works with other groups on Accounts Payable items to meet the internal customer needs.

What you will bring to the role  

Education:

  • Completed High School Diploma

Experience:

  • 2 to 5 years of related accounts payable experience.

Technical Skills:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Problem solving.
  • Planning and organizing.
  • Experience in external banking instructions and processes.
  • Experience working with Oracle and/or Workday would be considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
  • Some evening and weekend work is required in this position but identified most often in advance.

Additional Details

Wage Range: $34.88 – $42.39

Hours of Work: 7.5 hours per day, 37.5 hours per week

Union: CSU52 (A4)
