As VP, Engineering for Capital Power, Lori Nickifor brings over 24 years of experience in the energy and power industries. Lori and her 70-person team of Professional Engineers and Designers support the development and construction of capital projects and day-to-day operational and reliability engineering support for Capital Power’s entire North American fleet. In addition, she provides leadership in the research and development of new and emerging technologies in the power generation sector.

Prior to leading the engineering team, Lori was responsible for HSE performance, environmental permitting, and due diligence for over 4200MW of new power facilities as VP, Health, Safety and Environment. Lori led the development and implementation of an industry leading HSE performance index in 2014 and her team achieved top-quartile industry safety performance. And under her leadership, Capital Power recorded the least amount of environmental incident in its history, with a 92% reduction over two consecutive years.

Lori is a Professional Engineer and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta, Faculty of Engineering and completed the Queen’s Executive Development Program in Strategy and Finance. Lori was Co-Chair of the City of Edmonton’s Energy Transition Advisory Committee, working on the design of our community’s energy future and was an active mentor for MORE, an Edmonton based mentoring program for women. In 2020, she was included in the CEA’s “Women in Energy” series, which profiled female leaders, experts, and innovators from across Canada’s electricity sector on social media.
