We at Capital Power Corporation are currently seeking an innovative individual to join our Business Applications team!

Reporting to the Manager, Business Applications, the Systems Professional is accountable for supporting a portfolio of vendor supported and custom applications. The applications support the company’s delivery of power into the market. Your scope of work includes actively developing, enhancing, and maintaining applications, applying technical expertise to resolve incidents and problems, and actively consulting with clients, peers, and managers in order to develop technical solutions to business problems within the portfolio supported.

You will contribute to our team by

  • Supporting moderately complex and diverse set of commercial off the shelf applications, and custom applications that serve all areas within Capital Power.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for the portfolio of supported applications.
  • Providing responsive and customer-focused support services for all supported applications.
  • Completing maintenance of the application functions to ensure reliable and secure performance, including applying security patches, implementing version upgrades, modifying, and enhancing code and performing on-going data management tasks.
  • Providing tier 2 support for incidents and service requests for supported application ensuring that the Service Level Agreements are achieved.
  • Participating in an analyst role for both operations and capital project initiatives.
  • Understanding and following professional IT practices within the Systems Delivery Life Cycle.
  • Delivering solutions in a timely manner by overcoming unknowns using independent research and problem-solving skills to deliver results.
  • Meeting business users needs by providing long term solutions beyond specific problem resolution.
  • Adhering to the processes and best practices in IT.
  • Providing technical advice to business users, Business Applications manager, and peers in support of business and strategic goals relevant to the duties of the position.
  • Being a part of a team providing technical solutions and recommend cost effective solutions that meet business needs.
  • Providing input and assist with disaster recovery/continuity of operations planning and testing for supported applications.
  • Providing input to the Business Applications Manager’s plans and directions.
  • Resolving application issues using problem solving techniques and meeting the needs of the business users.
  • Collaborating with our business areas to understand their requirements and translating them into efficient solutions that provide business value.
  • Collaborating with managers within IS to gain best practices on supporting applications to increase efficiency.
  • Delivering solutions in a timely manner by overcoming unknowns by working with the application vendor to deliver results.

What you will bring to the role

Education:

  • Degree or Diploma in Computing Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems.
  • Education equivalency may be considered.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in supporting, developing, and enhancing corporate applications.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting, configuring, and maintaining commercial off the shelf (COTS) engineering and plant software.
  • 3+ years of experience in query writing using T-SQL or PL/SQL against a commercial database such as Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle.
  • 3+ years of experience in Microsoft .NET C# programming.
  • 2+ years of experience in supporting and configuring the ServiceNow platform.
  • 2+ years of working knowledge of Maximo CMMS/SCM/HSE modules and associated business processes.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting high-availability systems and business processes to support real-time operations.
  • 1+ year of experience in architecting and developing process solutions in a robotics process automation (RPA) platform.
  • Experience working in a corporate environment supporting diverse application portfolio.
  • Experience in providing end to end solutions to resolve application issues.

Technical Skills:

  • System integration and support experience; specifically, for commercial of the shelf products.
  • System analysis and design experience; specifically, analysis and programming for high availability corporate systems.
  • Strong understanding of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and how the framework applies to custom-build and commercial off the shelf (COTS) implementations.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot low-medium complexity technical issues to identify the root cause and provide recommendations to address the issue.
  • Application testing skills; ability to organize and execute a test plan.
  • Ability to communicate highly technical information in a clear and concise manner to peers and business representatives.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities in response to business needs.
  • Customer relationship skills, demonstrated responsiveness, analytical thinking, problem solving, and planning skills are required.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
  • As required, participation in the on-call rotation schedule.

Additional Details:

Union: CSU52 (IT2)

Hours of Work: 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week

Wage: $55.80 to $66.55
